Steel LegionHotFive Nights at Shrek's Hotel is an indie parody horror game created by RenderPi. Inspired by internet meme culture and psychological horror games, the experience mixes absurd comedy with unsettling suspense. Players arrive at Shrek’s hotel looking for a cheap place to stay, but each passing night reveals darker secrets hidden inside the building.
The story begins after the unnamed protagonist moves to a new city without enough money to buy a home. Desperate for somewhere affordable to stay, they rent a room at Shrek’s hotel for five nights. At first, the hotel simply feels awkward and uncomfortable, but strange events quickly begin happening around the building.
Throughout Five Nights at Shrek's Hotel, players explore hotel hallways, complete bizarre tasks for Shrek, and survive increasingly disturbing encounters. Early objectives involve simple chores such as carrying boxes, cleaning bathrooms, and exploring storage rooms. However, nightmares, strange noises, corpses, and sudden jumpscares slowly transform the experience into full psychological horror.
One of the game’s most memorable sections occurs during the final night, where players suddenly awaken inside a Backrooms-style environment and must collect onions while being chased by Shrek. The absurdity of these moments, combined with genuine horror presentation, is part of what made the game so popular across YouTube and meme communities.
